How does Xactimate work?

Xactimate takes a property estimate from the site inspection to the final report in four stages:

Capture: Sketch the structure in 2D or 3D, or measure rooms with Sketch AR on a supported mobile device.
Scope: Add line items for the damage by hand or through a guided workflow, such as XactScope for roofs and exteriors.
Price: Apply pricing researched for the local market to each line item.
Report: Attach photos and notes to the estimate, then generate a report for claim review and settlement.

You can start an estimate on mobile at the property and finish it on desktop or online without exporting the file.

Where does the pricing data in Xactimate come from?

Verisk researches the pricing data in Xactimate on a regular schedule across markets in the U.S. and Canada. Each estimate uses the price list for the loss location, so line items reflect labor and material costs in that market. The full process is documented in the Pricing Research Methodology.

What's the difference between Xactimate desktop, online, and mobile?

Xactimate desktop, online, and mobile share the same estimate data, and each one fits a different part of the job. Desktop is the full estimating workspace for detailed estimates, sketches, and professional reports. Online runs in a browser with an internet connection, where you can open assignments, review claims, and keep estimating. Mobile is built for the field: document damage, take photos, sketch, measure with Sketch AR, and upload your work. The comparison table above shows where each capability is available.

Can I use Xactimate offline?

Xactimate desktop and mobile both support offline work. Xactimate online requires an internet connection.

How do you sketch and measure a property in Xactimate?
