Reducing our environmental impact is an ongoing journey. As a professional services company, we have a small footprint, but we recognize the financial, reputational, and regulatory importance of minimizing our climate impacts and risks while enhancing efficiencies. This commitment aligns with our vision of shaping a more resilient future and adding value to our clients and communities.

Verisk's environmental commitment

Climate risk

Verisk conducts a biennial assessment of our global climate risk exposure. This analysis informs our evolving approach to climate risk management and mitigation, which is overseen in partnership with our Global Protection Services (GPS) team and informs our Business Continuity Program (BCP). Verisk’s leased office model and flexible working arrangements are key to keeping our place-based risks minimal.

Our emissions

Verisk conducts an annual evaluation of the carbon emissions associated with our global operations, using the principles and guidance of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol). Verisk’s Scope 1 and 2 data include electricity, heating, and fugitive emissions from the company’s office locations, as well as our vehicle fleet. Verisk’s Scope 3 data include the categories we have screened as material for our business, namely categories 1 through 8, 13, and 15. We engaged an independent third party to provide external limited assurance on certain of our 2025 GHG emissions.

Our targets

Verisk has remained focused on a multi-year strategy that increases operational efficiency and lowers costs while delivering meaningful emissions reductions across our operations. As of January 2025, the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has validated that the science-based GHG emissions reductions targets submitted by Verisk conform with the SBTi Corporate Net Zero Standard. Despite company growth, Verisk’s emissions have continued their downward trend across all three Scopes. For more details, please see our historical emissions data, linked above.

Near-Term SBTi Targets

Reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 58.8% by 2034 from 2022 base year
Reduce absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services and capital goods 58.8% within the same timeframe
Reduce Scope 3 GHG emissions from business travel 63.8% per FTE within the same timeframe

Long-Term Net-Zero Target

Reduce absolute Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions 90% by 2050 from 2022 base year.

Investing in ecosystem restoration

We know that simply reducing our environmental footprint is not enough, so Verisk is committed to partnering with organizations working to rebuild the environment, with a focus on the areas where we operate. For nearly a decade, we have worked with The Canopy Project, an initiative sponsored by EARTHDAY.ORG (EDO) to support the planting of carbon-absorbing trees. In 2025, Verisk’s donation supported the planting of 10,000 mangrove trees in the Sundarbans region of India, which are expected to sequester nearly 500,000 pounds of CO2 per year once they reach maturity.
