The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced that beginning October 31, 2026, it will use the CDC’s “Table 1: Life Table for the total population: United States, 2024” for the Workers’ Compensation Medicare Set Aside life expectancy calculations. The table correlates a person’s age with anticipated life expectancy, enabling CMS to determine the anticipated length of medical treatment for an individual when evaluating workers’ compensation Medicare Set Asides.

CMS’s brief announcement can be found here, and the relevant text is as follows: “Beginning October 31, 2026, CMS will utilize the CDC’s 'Table 1: Life Table for the total population: United States, 2024' for the Workers’ Compensation Medicare Set Aside life expectancy calculations.
