Manipulated claim media rarely looks manipulated. AI image tools, editing apps, and recycled internet content make it easy to exaggerate damage or fabricate a loss, and everything that documents a claim moves through the same review process: photos, video, invoices, estimates. Why is manipulated media in claims so hard to catch?

Manipulation usually leaves a trace in the file, but finding it means reading metadata and comparing one photo against every other image on record. That work doesn’t scale to a full inventory of open claims. Across the claim images, Verisk analyzes:

1 in 100 images contains suspicious metadata
5 in 1,000 images appear in more than one claim
1 in 5,000 images are sourced from the internet

A single reused photo can travel across carriers indefinitely. In one case, Digital Media Forensics matched damage photos from a staged scooter accident across six carriers within a month, all traced back to a Reddit post.

What does Digital Media Forensics do?

Digital Media Forensics applies automated checks to loss photos and documents submitted with a claim, then returns the findings to the handler. Powered by ClaimSearch^®, it flags:

Images duplicated across claims and across carriers
Metadata that conflicts with the reported date or location
Pixel-level manipulation, such as cloned or retouched areas of an image
AI-generated content, identified through metadata signatures and deepfake metadata indicators
PDFs, including

Each check is documented, and any referral to the special investigation unit (SIU) carries that evidence with it.

What does the new Accelerator change?

Connecting ClaimCenter to Digital Media Forensics typically requires custom integration and dedicated IT resources. The Digital Media Forensics Accelerator replaces that work with a pre-built integration directly downloadable from the Guidewire Marketplace.

Forensic results then appear in the claim file in ClaimCenter. Adjusters can review flagged images and documents within their existing workflow, without switching between systems or adding another step to the claim review process.
