Law firm Weightmans has strengthened its fraud detection capability through its collaboration with Verisk, a leading strategic data analytics and technology partner to the global insurance industry. Fraud Rely combines Weightmans' proprietary fraud data and legal expertise with Verisk's anti-fraud technology to help insurers detect suspicious activity, uncover potential connections and focus investigative resources where they can have the greatest impact.
As oversight of economic crime continues to increase, alongside the introduction of the Economic Crime & Corporate Transparency Act 2023 (ECCTA) and the new corporate criminal offence of ‘Failure to prevent fraud’ - organisations are placing greater emphasis on earlier identification and management of fraud risk.
Fraud Rely is designed to support that shift. The platform combines Verisk’s anti-fraud solutions with Weightmans’ proprietary fraud data to help insurers, claims handlers, and counter-fraud teams identify potentially fraudulent activity earlier and prioritise higher-risk cases.
Bringing together legal insight and powerful data analytics supports a more proactive approach to identifying connections between claims, parties and behaviours that may indicate fraud - from opportunistic activity through to more organised schemes.
Chris Sawford, Managing Director, General Insurance UK & Ireland, Verisk, said: “Fraud is becoming more complex and connected, which makes early visibility increasingly important. Bringing together legal expertise with trusted industry data and anti-fraud technology helps teams move beyond reactive investigation towards earlier, proactive identification of potential fraud. Through Fraud Rely, Weightmans is leveraging Verisk’s advanced detection, matching and intelligence capabilities alongside its own specialist fraud expertise to help uncover connections between claims, parties and behaviours that may otherwise go unnoticed. The result is a more connected approach to identifying, prioritising and managing potential fraud risks across the claims lifecycle.”
The approach reflects a broader shift across the market towards combining data sources and expertise to improve how fraud is identified and managed in practice.
Mike Brown, Head of Fraud at Weightmans, said: “Fraud continues to undermine both the UK and global economy. Our collaboration with Verisk represents a major step forward in equipping us – and our clients – with advanced technology to better identify and respond to fraud.
“Importantly, the Fraud Rely platform is designed to evolve in line with the changing threat landscape. As fraud becomes more sophisticated, our ability to detect and respond to it must evolve as well.”
