Assessing the cost of the Texas 2013 Black Forest wildfire

The Black Forest wildfire destroyed more than 500 properties

As of mid-July, residents of El Paso County, the site of the Black Forest fire, filed claims totaling $365 million, according to Verisk's Property Claim Services® (PCS®). The fire is the second most expensive wildfire in the state's history.

El Paso County, also home to the 2012 Waldo Canyon fire that caused $450 million of insured losses, contains the third highest number of properties at extreme risk for wildfire in the state.

See the FireLine State Risk Reports for more information on wildfire risk in Colorado and nine other western states.
