States requiring automobile liability insurance reporting on rise

Thirty-six states have automobile liability insurance reporting (ALIR) programs, also known as electronic state reporting programs. Three states are holding discussions or legislative hearings to weigh the possibility of implementing an ALIR program.

Many states have adopted web-based transaction processing using online verification (OLV) to increase reporting accuracy and timeliness.

The infographic above demonstrates how line-of-business requirements, frequency of submissions, and methods of electronic communication vary by state. The common thread running through the reporting programs is that most are mandatory. States use the programs to enforce compulsory automobile financial responsibility laws.

Verisk specializes in state automobile financial responsibility compliance laws. CV-ALIR provides the reliable reporting, tailored tracking, and error correction you need to meet your electronic ALIR requirements.
