Frank Coyne Joins Insurance Services Office as President and Chief Operating Officer

NEW YORK, Jan. 27, 1999 — Frank J. Coyne, 50, will join Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO) as president and chief operating officer, effective February 1.

He assumes the president's title from Fred R. Marcon, 61, who will continue as chairman and chief executive officer.

Coyne comes to ISO from Kemper Insurance Cos., where he has served as executive vice president—specialty and risk management groups. Earlier, Coyne served in a variety of positions with General Accident Insurance Co. of America, and was elected its president and chief operating officer in 1991. That company's London-based parent, General Accident PLC, merged at midyear with London-based Commercial Union PLC to become CGU PLC.

"In the period of rapid-fire and far-reaching change ahead, ISO will benefit from Frank's particular combination of analytical thinking, in-depth and first-hand knowledge of the marketplace, proven leadership and broad-gauge management abilities, and focus on the customer," Marcon said.

"Frank's leadership will be particularly important as ISO's product offering continues to become richer and more complex. We're expanding dramatically from traditional property/casualty insurance rating and underwriting information to provide a variety of new offerings, including services for claims professionals, workers compensation insurers, loss-control experts, premium auditors, self-insureds, and government at all levels," Marcon noted.

Reporting to Coyne will be Michael Fusco, senior executive vice president—operations; Donald J. Rainone, executive vice president—marketing and strategic planning; Mavis A. Walters, executive vice president—government relations; and Roy S. Nicolosi, senior vice president and chief information officer.

Coyne began his career in 1973 as a trial attorney with the U.S. Treasury Department. He joined Lynn Insurance Group in 1977 and served as vice president and assistant general counsel. In 1981 he joined Reliance Insurance Co. and served as associate corporate general counsel and general counsel for the insurance business. He became vice president and general counsel of PMA Insurance Co. in 1983.

He joined General Accident Insurance Co. of America in 1985 as senior vice president and general counsel with responsibility for the legal, human resources and administration functions. Two years later he became executive vice president—field operations with responsibility for underwriting, claims and marketing activities in General Accident's 28 branch offices.

Coyne received his bachelor's degree in political science magna cum laude from the University of Scranton and his law degree from Duquesne University.

New York-based ISO provides information about property/casualty insurance, including statistics, underwriting and claims information, actuarial analyses, policy language, and consulting and technical services. ISO serves participants in the property/casualty insurance market, including more than 2,900 insurers and reinsurers, as well as agents, brokers, self-insureds, risk managers, regulators and various government agencies, with information on 18 lines of property/casualty insurance. ISO's database, with 5.5 billion detailed insurance premium and loss records, is one of the largest private databases in the world.
