- Cogent solicitors now transfer claims information between medical experts and insurers faster and more efficiently
- PICAS helps ensure fair and consistent claims settlements
London, U.K. – 14 September, 2010 — Insurance Services Office (ISO) Limited, a leading provider of next-generation personal injury claims services in the United Kingdom, has announced that Cogent Law — one of the U.K.’s most established handlers of motor insurance legal cases — is using the ISO Personal Injury Claims Assessment Service (PICAS) to help speed up the firm’s personal injury claims process. Cogent Law recently implemented the new solution to digitise a number of insurer claims handled by the organisation. ISO’s PICAS eliminates the need for manual reviews or written reports to be processed by insurance claims handlers, which ensures that Cogent Law produces consistent settlements and fast-tracked personal injury claims.
PICAS was designed by ISO to smooth the claims-handling workflow and allow for greater transparency and consistency in claims negotiations to benefit all parties to a settlement. PICAS is the industry’s only solution to entirely digitise the process for personal injury claims. Following PICAS implementation at Cogent Law, claims processed through the service have been settled much more quickly, helped by the digitally stored information and documents that provide transparency and accessibility for all parties. The inclusion of report-writing software for use by medical professionals eliminates the need to interpret and then rekey details from medical reports, which enables much more consistent settlement procedures.
“Since implementing PICAS, we now provide faster, fairer, and more consistent settlements than the industry norm,” said Nick Addyman, senior partner at Cogent Law. “Our new digital system significantly reduces manual paperwork and administration, which in turn cuts associated costs for our clients yet still enables us to remain in control of the claims process.
“Unfortunately, there remain widespread discrepancies within the industry regarding claims settlements, and, because of the unpredictable environment, some people are not fairly compensated for their suffering. We want to ensure that we are providing our clients with the compensation they deserve. With the help of PICAS, we are working to remove the inconsistencies in favour of a standardised process, reduce the time involved in settling a claim, and eliminate the need for paper documents — all of which will significantly benefit the claimant,” concluded Nick Addyman.
Joe Pendle, director of client services at ISO, said, “We welcome Cogent’s participation in the PICAS network and are pleased by the substantial improvements PICAS is bringing to the claims-handling process. The service is proving its value and meeting our expectations.”
