MSDgen 6.52 Features Expanded Support for Latin America, New Classification Functionality for the Flavors and Fragrances Industry, and Workplace Safety Cards
Carlsbad, Calif., July 22, 2013 — 3E Company, a leading provider of environmental health and safety (EH&S) compliance and information management services, today announced the immediate availability of MSDgen® 6.52, the latest version of its Safety Data Sheet (SDS) authoring system. The new version features enhanced integration with the SAP® EHS Management (SAP EHSM) system, including a streamlined SAP EHSM-to-MSDgen interface. This simplifies the transfer of data from SAP EHSM into MSDgen for use in the efficient creation of safety data sheets (SDSs) and other hazard communication documents.
The enhanced interface allows users to author SDSs in MSDgen more productively while still using various other applications, features, and functions of SAP EHSM. The interface features the DMgen data migration tool, which allows data to be imported seamlessly from SAP EHSM into MSDgen. Supported data types include ingredient range data, additional component data, alternate trade name (ATN) data, and translations.
Other features include:
- expanded support for Latin America, with new rules, SDSs, labels, and classification sheets implemented according to Uruguay’s Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) regulation and new GHS and non-GHS SDSs and label templates for Central America, the Caribbean, and South America to allow the best options for coverage to the user community.
- new functionality for flavors and fragrances, with support for materials to be treated as essential oils. Essential oils are defined to be constructed with their own Chemicals Abstracts Service (CAS) number and will possess their own set of components. The classification and all details to be conveyed for the essential oils come from this material-level CAS number. The components are shown in section three of the SDS but are not used for any classification or conveyed anywhere in the document.
- addition of workplace safety cards to inform employees of the risks involved with product usage. The information is based on the Dangerous Substances Directive (DSD) or Dangerous Preparations Directive (DPD) and the Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) classification and includes the level of protection required and emergency procedures — all within one guide. This enhancement expands the hazard communication capabilities of MSDgen.
- enhanced LABELgenerator tool, with additional settings that allow styling elements to be set for all documents or for a specific document. The expanded tool also enables users to create composite images for GHS diamonds that can be used in a variety of layouts.
“MSDgen 6.52 reflects our unwavering support for the SAP EHSM user community’s need for more productive and robust SDS authoring,” said Clark D. VanScoder, vice president, MSDgen Operations, 3E Company. “This new version of MSDgen features many improvements to the SAP EHSM-to-MSDgen interface, all designed to help SAP EHSM users more effectively author SDSs and other hazard communication documents. These innovative updates ensure that SAP EHSM users are able to transfer data easily from SAP into MSDgen for increased excellence and productivity in SDS authoring.”
MSDgen 6.52 is available immediately.
