MSDgen 6.51 Offers Preloaded Emergency Response Numbers for EU and IUCLID 5.4 Data Support
Carlsbad, CA., January 31, 2013 — 3E Company, a leading provider of environmental health and safety (EH&S) compliance and information management services, today announced the immediate availability of MSDgen® 6.51, the latest version of its Safety Data Sheet (SDS) authoring system. With this latest release, customers have access to new features and regulatory updates, including expanded regulatory information for the Asia-Pacific region and enhancements to support compliance with Asian and other new implementations of the United Nations' Globally Harmonized System for the Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS).
MSDgen 6.51 aligns with the fourth version of the UN's GHS Purple Book, which includes additional hazard categories for flammable gases and aerosols. Working closely with regional specialists, 3E Company expanded MSDgen to support the regulatory information in Section 15 of Chinese, Taiwanese, and Korean Safety Data Sheets based on local requirements, recommendations, and industry best practices. Rules and SDS and label templates have also been updated to conform to Japanese and Thai GHS implementations.
Beyond Asia-Pacific, MSDgen 6.51 aligns with Brazil's updated GHS regulation, which incorporates the fourth version of the UN's GHS Purple Book. In addition, the Israel SDS template has been updated to align with Israeli hazard communication regulations, using the EU's Dangerous Substances Directive (DSD)/Dangerous Preparations Directive (DPD) classification because Israel has not yet adopted GHS. The new regulatory implementations enable users to produce SDSs that are current with the most recent international regulatory compliance requirements.
MSDgen 6.51 features a wide range of GHS-specific enhancements, including support for the specification of confidence intervals for toxicological and eco-toxicological data values, which are used to determine the set of values considered for GHS calculations. This key feature prevents outlying data values from triggering extreme GHS classifications and ensures that the most accurate GHS classifications are made by basing the calculations on the most data. GHS classification sheets and assessment logs are now available as well.
Other features include:
- preloaded emergency response phone numbers for specific EU countries printed in Section 1 of the appropriate SDSs
- three new user metrics reports that allow users to review quickly and easily the monthly MSDgen activity by document, material, or user
- support for the import of IUCLID version 5.4 data, including IUCLID dossier files
- new configuration tools for web-based MSDgen products, including MSDSviewer and LABELgenerator subsystems (options include the specification of security access, search design methods, and user interface configuration options)
- a data migration tool called DMgen that allows users to define each interface according to their customer and allows data to be imported from multiple sources
"With a myriad of regulatory changes and updates taking place throughout the Asia-Pacific region, authoring compliant hazard communication documentation is becoming increasingly complex," said Clark D. VanScoder, vice president, MSDgen Operations, 3E Company. "Our team of MSDgen experts worked closely with regional regulatory experts to help ensure that the platform accurately reflects the global regulatory landscape. As such, MSDgen 6.51 users can be more confident they are producing documents that conform to the regulations affecting their global businesses in the fast-growing Asian economies."
MSDgen 6.51 is available immediately.
