Renewable Energy Commitment
We’ve purchased renewable energy certificates and carbon offsets to help address our projected global carbon emissions for 2017 and 2018. The quantities purchased for each year are equivalent to the amounts needed to reduce 100 percent of Verisk’s 2016 global emissions.
Renewable energy certificates are tradable energy commodities representing one megawatt-hour of electricity generated from a renewable source such as wind, solar, or hydroelectric power.
Our portfolio of certificates includes projects in the United States, Canada, and countries in Europe and Asia. Our largest project is the Prairie Breeze I wind energy farm in Antelope County, Nebraska. The farm, located in an electric power grid considered to have the dirtiest air emissions in the United States, generates clean energy with nearly 120 wind turbines spread across 26,000 acres.
The carbon offsets we’ve purchased support efforts to reduce emissions at landfills in New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Utah.
All projects are verified and certified according to international standards by third parties, including Green-e Climate, Green-e Energy, and the Climate Action Reserve.
