The Louisiana Department of Public Safety (DPS) announced the new Louisiana Insurance Verification System (LAIVS). The state has chosen a vendor, MV Solutions, to develop the new system.
LAIVS will require an online verification (OLV) service as well as a book of business (BOB) file. Both the OLV and the BOB file will use the Insurance Industry Committee on Motor Vehicle Administration (IICMVA) model. The state will require insurers to provide private passenger and commercial lines when submitting BOB files. Commercial insurance providers who capture the VINs will need to comply with the web service requirement unless granted an exemption by the commissioner of the Office of Motor Vehicles.
Below are the key deadlines for insurance providers:
- By September 21, 2015: Insurance providers register on the LAIVS website
- By November 20, 2015: Insurance providers submit a test book of business (BOB) file to LAIVS and begin web services testing
- By February 23, 2016: Insurance providers move to a production environment, including BOB data submission and web services (if applicable)
