CMS releases WCMSA reference guide (Version 2.7)

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has released its latest WCMSA Reference Guide (Version 2.7). This is CMS’ ninth release of the guide to date.

The new WCMSA Reference Guide (Version 2.7) makes two minor changes as follows:

Wcmsa Update: Cms Holds Wcrc Transition Webinar

  • The WCRC contact phone number has been updated to 1-833-295-3373 (Section 14.0, Appendix 1 and Appendix 5).
  • CMS replaced the language in the confidentiality statement. The prior statement addressed disclosure restrictions imposed on Medicare employees and contractors. The amended language completely changes and replaces this prior statement and covers how CMS is authorized under the Medicare Secondary Payer statute to collect beneficiary information. CMS further references that it may disclose this information only when the beneficiary provides explicit written consent and authorization. (Ref. Guide, p.vi).

Overall, the new reference guide changes do not significantly impact the current WCMSA process. It remains to be seen if CMS plans to make changes to existing processes in light of the transition to the new WCRC contractor, Capitol Bridge, LLC which took over on March 19th.

ISO Claims Partners will continue to monitor events on these fronts and provide updates as warranted. To learn more about the recent WCRC transition to Capitol Bridge, click here.
