On August 16, 2018, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) hosted a webinar focusing on its Medicare Secondary Payer Recovery Portal (MSPRP).
The MSPRP is CMS’ web-based application that enables authorized representatives the ability to view Medicare recovery case information. This webinar follows CMS’ July release of its updated MSPRP User Guide through which CMS made minor updates aimed at streamlining the communication process when using the MSPRP to obtain conditional payment information.
Webinar highlights
As part of this thirty-minute webinar session CMS provided a general overview of basic MSPRP functionality, including the MSPRP’s benefits, the technical process to obtain access to the application, current capabilities, and available resources for further inquiries. CMS further highlighted the benefits of utilizing multi-factor authentication (MFA) and discussed recent enhancements in this area, such as allowing users to log in with MFA to view unmasked complete claims detail including HICN, provider name, type of service, diagnosis codes and other related fields.
Additional features and enhancements discussed
CMS touched on two new features released in July about the ability to see correspondence that has been sent and received, as well as providing insurer debtors and their authorized representatives the option to download electronic conditional payment letters which should greatly reduce turn-around times in requesting this information. Lastly, and of note, CMS announced that future enhancements are coming to the portal which will center on the ability to report a liability, auto/no-fault or workers’ compensation case on the MSPRP and to submit payment for recovery cases via the MSPSP. Anticipated dates for these enhancements were not provided.
We will continue to closely monitor announcements regarding increased functionality of the MSPRP and provide updates as warranted.
