Verisk Volunteer Week

For one week of the year, usually in October, Verisk team members worldwide step away from their desks and into their communities to support local causes or charities that are important to them. This year was no different and the 8th ‘Verisk Volunteer Week’ again provided employees with the opportunity to take time out of their work week to help those in need.

Geomni Team Volunteering

Last year, the pandemic inspired the Geomni team to find ways to contribute that were in line with the restrictions in place. They participated in the Missing Maps initiative in which they remotely “mapped” un-mapped areas to help humanitarian organizations provide aid to some of the world’s most vulnerable people.

This year, with COVID-19 restrictions somewhat more relaxed, the team were keen to find a local charitable cause that they could support. This is when they came across Reach, a Haverhill based charity, which exists to tackle poverty, increase aspirations, and restore people’s dignity and hope. The Geomni office is based in Linton, halfway between Cambridge and Haverhill.

The charity, run by a mixture of full-time employees and volunteers, try to achieve their goals through community projects which include giving free financial/debt advice, providing essential supplies including bedding, kitchenware and food, to those who need it most.

During Volunteer week members of the Geomni team spent two days helping at Reach’s foodbank by sorting donations and packing food boxes ready for distribution. The passion of the Reach staff and Volunteers to help others was infectious and the impact their operation had on the community was clear to see, feeding over 1500 people in the last year.

The Geomni team all benefited from the experience and were delighted to be able to support those in the local community less fortunate than themselves.
