Meet the Presenters

Craig Beattie

Senior Analyst
Celent

Craig Beattie brings extensive experience in enterprise architecture and applications architecture practices in the insurance industry.

Craig has advised insurers on IT strategy, legacy modernisation, insurance vendor analysis and enterprise architecture topics, principally in the EMEA region. Since joining Celent, he has been a speaker at industry events in North America and London, as well as Celent events in Europe. He has spoken on topics such as the influence of mobile on the industry, the use of social networks by insurers, and how the evolving use of the internet, data, and IoT will influence insurance in the future.

Recent consulting clients have engaged Craig for policy administration vendor analyses, market entry strategies, and product messaging work for insurance vendors.

Prior to joining Celent, Craig was an applications architect with Royal Bank of Scotland Group's Strategy and Architecture team, working extensively with RBS Insurance.

Jonathan Spry

Jonathan is a co-founder and CEO of Envelop Risk Analytics. Envelop Risk is a global specialty cyber insurance firm, combining decades of insurance industry expertise with sophisticated cyber and machine learning analytics tools. Envelop Risk provides underwriting and asset structuring to insurers and reinsurers, while partnering with cyber software firms for custom product delivery.

Jonathan brings 20-years of insurance and investment banking experience to Envelop. Jonathan’s expertise covers strategy, innovation, technology and capital management in the insurance industry.

Previously, Jonathan was a founder and partner of Aros Capital/New Nordic Advisors, Managing Director, Head of Insurance Solutions & Advisory at StormHarbour Securities and ran both Insurance Capital Management and UK Insurance Coverage at RBS Global Banking & markets. Before RBS, he was a Senior Vice President at Guy Carpenter, responsible for capital markets advisory and Insurance Linked Securities (ILS). Jonathan has also been S&P's Head of ILS in Europe and has worked in corporate finance, M&A and structured finance at Morgan Stanley and Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi.

In 2008, Insurance Day magazine voted Jonathan Young Broker of the Year. Jonathan has contributed to numerous articles on the topic of InsurTech and ILS and is the author of the market overview in "The Handbook of Insurance-Linked Securities" published by Wiley Finance in July 2009.

Jonathan holds an MBA from the University of Oxford.

Rob Merttens

Robin Merttens is co-founder and partner of InsTech London, the largest insurance innovation community in London. He also advises and invests in startups, occasionally consulting for insurers on all things InsurTech. Prior to InsTech, Robin co-founded RI3K, the London e-trading platform now trading as the Placing Platform Limited (PPL).

Stephen Brittain

­Stephen co-founded Insurtech Gateway and now uses his 15 years of innovation experience to help bring disruptive InsurTech businesses like FloodFlash and By Miles to market. As Hambro Perks' first creative director, he supported their growing portfolio (including Sipsmiths, Laundrapp, Takumi, TheDots) through early stage development and testing. This, combined with previous agency projects (including Native, SeymourPowell, BBC, Nike, DEFRA) gave Stephen a deep understanding of startups, strategic innovation, and translating this to investors. As an avid designer and entrepreneur himself, Stephen has won several awards, including Sunday Times Ski Product of the Year, for his map business MountMaps.
