President, Extreme Event Solutions
Bill Churney is president of extreme event solutions. He’s responsible for setting global strategy and overseeing worldwide operations for the company. Bill has extensive experience working with companies to better understand how they manage risk and identify ways to use analytics to improve catastrophe risk management.
In Bill’s 18-year career at Verisk, he’s furthered and led the company’s mission to help businesses and governments proactively plan for and reduce the effects of extreme events. Through this work, Verisk helps society as a whole achieve greater resilience to both immediate and longer-term risks such as climate change.
His roles at Verisk have included senior vice president and chief operating officer for extreme event solutions, leading business development, marketing, and product development. He has led teams that have significantly increased the use of models in many markets, including in the United States and Latin America.
Before joining Verisk in 2002, he worked in consulting, technology, and distribution for McMaster-Carr and Charles River Associates.
In 2019, ACORD, the global standards-setting body for the insurance industry, named Bill a Top Ten Insurtech Leader based on his vision, execution, and impact in shaping the future of insurance through innovation.
Bill holds an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College and a BA in economics from Haverford College.
Bill represents Verisk on the Federal Advisory Commission for Insurance and serves on the Board of Trustees of GeoHazards International, a non-profit dedicated to empowering at-risk communities worldwide to build resilience ahead of disasters and climate impacts.
