In May, the Rhode Island Insurance Verification System (RIIVS) began sending letters to certain owners of Rhode Island registered vehicles — owners that the state has identified as potentially uninsured. The notices instruct those owners to contact an insurance company or agent and take the steps necessary to become compliant with the state’s mandatory insurance requirements.
Initially, RIIVS will send a limited number of letters to familiarize insurance companies and agents with the new process. The number of letters generated through this process will increase over time.
View the key components of the letter campaign as outlined in the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations Division of Motor Vehicles’ Rules of Practice and Procedure for Insurance Verification Program document.
