Minimizing the Need for Claim Handler Review in the UK — STATISTICSBy Joe Pendle | April 16, 2013
With the “Jackson Reforms” — the United Kingdom’s new litigation rules — now in place, solicitors need to find new ways to increase claim handling efficiency. The reforms’ effect on costs naturally requires a reduction in the time it takes to achieve settlement. PICAS® Plus, the claim settlement negotiation tool from ISO, automates much of the process, alleviating workload and reducing the overhead involved in reaching settlement.
In watching our clients use PICAS Plus to automate claim settlement negotiations, we’ve found that 40 percent of cases settle immediately or at the insurer’s counter offer. Of the 60 percent of cases requiring handler review because of special damages:
- Medical expenses accounted for 57 percent (the majority evidenced and paid promptly)
- Fares and other alternative transportation costs (while a vehicle was off the road or a claimant was unable to drive because of an injury) were responsible for 25 percent (the majority evidenced and paid promptly)
- Other losses were responsible for 17 percent (mostly miscellaneous expenses and towing and storage)
The few claims requiring handler review, therefore, are quick and easy to identify, and the majority of those with evidence require just a brief review. With PICAS Plus, you can mitigate the effects of the Jackson Reforms on your firm, help compensate claimants faster, and accelerate costs payments.
