Alabama Online Insurance Verification System (OIVS): Unconfirmed Responses

The Alabama Department of Insurance is asking insurance carriers to verify the lists of unconfirmed insureds they submitted in response to the state’s online insurance verification system (OIVS), which went live January 1, 2013. A response of “unconfirmed” sets in motion a series of actions by the state that can result in the suspension of a vehicle’s registration. The purpose of the system is to increase compliance with the state’s long-standing compulsory insurance laws. Given the newness of the state’s program, it appears Alabama is making the request out of an abundance of caution.
