ISO Launches State Filing Handbook and Forms for Insurers on ISOnet

JERSEY CITY, NJ, February 19, 2002 — Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO) has announced the availability of its authoritative guide on state insurance laws and regulations, State Filing Handbook & State Filing Forms, on ISOnet®, ISO's secure Internet information-delivery platform to the property/casualty industry.

For nearly 20 years, insurers' in-house legal counsel, state-filing departments and compliance professionals, and law firms have depended on ISO's State Filing Handbook, the industry's authoritative and comprehensive reference source on insurance department requirements. Insurers use the Handbook to file rates, rules, and policy forms for state regulatory approval in jurisdictions where they write business. They also use the guide when adopting ISO filings.

The ISO online publication includes over 400 electronic filing forms in Microsoft Word™, a complete collection of forms with detailed instructions that insurers fill out and submit to regulators. Only insurers that subscribe to the ISO State Filing Handbook can obtain these electronic filing forms.

"The State Filing Handbook & State Filing Forms on ISOnet brings greater efficiency and a ready reference source to insurers' desktops," said Domenick J. Yezzi, Jr., ISO's vice president – Specialty Commercial Lines.

The ISO State Filing Handbook & State Filing Forms is a compendium of nearly 6,000 pages of detailed, current information on managing insurance filings with regulators. The electronic version will be updated daily so insurers will have immediate access to the latest filing requirements.

For each state, the electronic version of the ISO filing handbook provides:

  • Procedures for adopting or modifying ISO's filings as the basis for an insurer's own filings;
  • Overview of the state's filing requirements, summarizing key information, including type of rating law, required forms, number of copies to submit, and filing fees;
  • Information on special state requirements on topics such as investment income and expenses;
  • Insurance department contact information for submission of filings, including web sites and e-mail addresses;
  • Copies of filing forms;
  • Complete set of all regulations and bulletins on filing activities.

In addition, the State Filing Handbook & State Filing Forms includes special sections on filing procedures for rates established under the "refer to company" and "individual risk" rules, and filing laws and regulations for nonfiled inland marine classes.

With a password for ISOnet, insurers can either select information and filing forms specific to jurisdictions where they write business, or access countrywide information for a "Big picture" overview of the industry.

By clicking on the state name and the type of filing, insurers can see a complete list of the required filing forms on their desktops, which can then be downloaded from ISOnet, completed, and printed for submission to regulators.
