ISO Unveils Proactive Fraud-Detection Software that Queries, Retrieves and Stores Data from the ISO ClaimSearch System

LAS VEGAS, Nev., Feb. 14, 2000 — Claims and investigations professionals can access more than 140 million claims records, analyze the data, graphically display the interconnections among claims, and then store results of the investigation on their personal computer with ViewLink Manager software from Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO).

ViewLink Manager, unveiled at the 2000 Insurance Fraud Management Conference, lets insurers tap into the ISO ClaimSearch system – the property/casualty industry's comprehensive all-claims database. ViewLink Manager's advanced data-visualization tools dramatically reduce the amount of time it takes to investigate a claim for potential fraud.

"ViewLink Manager helps claims professionals and special investigation units (SIUs) to accurately and thoroughly analyze both individuals and organizations to build powerful cases," said Richard P. Boehning, ISO's senior vice president. "In this day of massive databases and complex relationships, ViewLink Manager is an invaluable tool for uncovering potential fraud – and for serving customers faster and more efficiently."

Through advanced analytical technologies, such as automated link analysis and data visualization, insurance professionals can investigate files that used to take three or four days to analyze in as little as 15 minutes, saving hundreds, or thousands, of dollars per case. Link analysis finds the hidden connections within large amounts of data, such as one address or Social Security Number tied to several names on multiple claims. ViewLink Manager presents those links in a clearly understandable visual format that conveys the meaning behind those connections.

The proactive fraud-detection tool signals potential fraud through 10 built-in flagging devices that alert the user to parties linked to multiple addresses or vehicles, or multiple parties linked to a single telephone number.

ViewLink Manager's features let users:

  • conduct customized queries
  • store the results of searches for each case in a local database on a PC
  • automatically view the results through step-link charts, circular charts, and spreadsheet formats to find relationships in the data that indicate potential fraud patterns
  • track multiple-claims cases simultaneously

ViewLink Manager is the PC-based solution from ISO's family of products to help claims professionals take advantage of the ISO ClaimSearch system. The software comes with an interactive training CD-ROM.

ISO ClaimSearch contains information on more than 140 million bodily injury (liability), property, and auto claims nationwide. More than 36 million claim records are added each year. This claims clearinghouse is a cooperative effort of more than 3,800 insurance companies, self-insureds, and third-party claims administrators.

The 2000 Insurance Fraud Management Conference, sponsored by ISO and the National Insurance Crime Bureau, is the insurance industry's preeminent event for claims professionals – field or home-office claims managers, special investigation unit managers and supervisors, insurance attorneys, and third-party administrators. The conference offers valuable information for professionals responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating fraud-management and prevention programs.

ISO is a leading source of information about property and liability risk. ISO provides statistical, actuarial, underwriting, and claims information and analyses; consulting and technical services; policy language; and information about specific locations for a broad spectrum of commercial and personal lines of insurance. In the United States and around the world, ISO serves more than 2,900 insurers and reinsurers, as well as agents, brokers, self-insureds, risk managers, insurance regulators, and other government agencies.
