Ridesharing Insurance Resource Center
The growth of ridesharing has created new challenges for insurance because auto policyholders have taken on many of the risks typically associated with taxi drivers. To help insurers address ridesharing, ISO has developed a number of tools and resources.
ISO’s ridesharing insurance options
We’ve introduced an endorsement to reinforce the current “public or livery conveyance” exclusion and two personal auto coverage options that insurers can use with drivers that participate in ridesharing services for transportation network companies (TNCs). One coverage option would apply from the time the driver logs in to the TNC platform via a mobile device until he or she accepts a ride request. The other would apply from when the driver logs in to the TNC platform up until a passenger occupies the vehicle. Learn more

Commercial Auto, Umbrella, and Excess
We’ve introduced two “public or livery passenger conveyance” exclusion options for each of the commercial lines highlighted above to address exposures related to transportation network and on-demand delivery services. The first option addresses the passenger exposure during any period of time an insured driver is logged in to a transportation network platform as a driver, regardless of whether a passenger is occupying the vehicle. The second option is similar to the first but also addresses on-demand “delivery services” performed through a “delivery services platform” or “transportation network platform.” Learn more

White paper on ridesharing
We recently published a white paper called Ridesharing Arrangements through Transportation Network Companies: What You Need to Know, which includes an analysis of the potential risks that ridesharing presents to the insurance industry. For more detailed information on ISO’s filings and legislative progress by state, ISO customers can view a related publication on the ridesharing section of the Emerging Issues Portal of ISOnet®.
Ridesharing regulatory activity and emerging issues
Most states have either enacted legislation or regulations for ridesharing services or have ridesharing-related legislation or regulations currently pending. In addition, a number of states have issued bulletins or advisory notices about possible insurance risks that may arise when using the services of TNCs. Read more about state ridesharing laws and regulations and view other publications in the ISO ridesharing section of the Emerging Issues Portal.
Our subject matter experts participate in a range of conferences and panels, including several Association of Insurance Compliance Professionals (AICP) regional conferences, the Property & Liability Resource Bureau (PLRB) Claims Conference, and Verisk’s own regional ISO User Conferences and Monday Web Seminars (June 1, 2015).
