Working for a Better World

For more than 30 years, Verisk’s Atmospheric and Environmental Research (AER) subsidiary has developed state-of-the-art algorithms for modeling and simulation of the atmosphere. Important current projects include the algorithms for two NASA survey missions and the Japanese Greenhouse gases Observation SATellite (GOSAT).

Verisk’s AIR Worldwide (AIR) subsidiary is sponsoring the Global Earthquake Model (GEM) project, a five-year project led by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The project is developing the world’s first global open-source model for seismic risk assessment. As a key contributor to the GEM project, AIR scientists and engineers will collaborate with leading earthquake researchers in many aspects of earthquake risk quantification and will have access to new global data sets.

Fire is a major cause of death and injury throughout the United States. Fire also results in billions of dollars in property damage and related losses to individuals and businesses.

In the battle to develop more effective firefighting capacity, one of the most important weapons available to fire departments and communities is the Public Protection Classification (PPC™) program from Verisk's ISO subsidiary. The PPC program gives insurance companies and fire departments a standard measurement of the effectiveness of fire protection in more than 46,000 fire districts throughout the country.

ISO recently introduced the insurance industry’s first standard coverage option for commercial property owners interested in rebuilding damaged property with green alternatives. As many people and businesses focus on managing and reducing their carbon footprints, insurers using the ISO program will be able to offer their customers an innovative way to help them rebuild green after a loss.
